The purpose of the class is to protect life and property, enforce laws, and investigate crime. The class is responsible for surveillance, law enforcement, investigations, apprehension, and reporting. The class works according to procedures; decides how and when to do things under general supervision. Requires a high school diploma or GED. Requires a Police Officer Certification for the State of Florida. Applicants currently serving in the military or currently employed as a certified law enforcement officer, seeking to relocate to this area and hold a valid driver license, will be eligible to test and interview. Recruits currently enrolled in a State of Florida approved Criminal Justice Training Center for Law Enforcement Certification Training or Comparative Compliance Course may apply and may be eligible to test and interview; however, they must pass the State Exam prior to employment. After receiving license, employee must live within a 20-mile radius of the intersection of Main Street and 14th Street in Leesburg. An eligibility list will be established for future openings.
