Senior Officer John Snow
Officer of the Year 2019
Leesburg Police Department

The Leesburg Police Department strives to be considered among the best and most professional law enforcement agencies in the region.  The most important component in achieving such a status is that the people who work for the agency exemplify professionalism and our core belief that we Protect and Serve with Integrity, Courage, Compassion, and Intelligence.  Each year, the entire membership of the Leesburg Police Department selects those individuals who they felt best personified those traits.  It is an honor to know that one’s peers, supervisors, and co-workers view them in such a light.  The members of the Leesburg Police Department selected Sr. Officer John Snow as their 2019 Officer of the Year.

Sr. K-9 Officer John Snow has set himself out as an example to officers everywhere through his strong work ethic, his dedication to his career and to his agency, and his efforts to work with and for the community to create a better and safer environment for those he serves.  In 2016, John was selected as a member of a community partnership focused team whose aim it was to address violent crime in a specific geographical area within the city.  During that time, John was able to develop a working relationship with several members of the community.  Since then, John has continued to foster those relationships and has used the lessons her learned from that experience to create and maintain new ones.  In 2019, John was able to work with those community partners on several occasions to develop critical actionable information in ongoing criminal investigations.

One of John’s most valuable traits, which assisted him greatly in building those community partnerships, is his caring and compassion for others.  Because of these traits, John was selected to the Critical Incident Response Team, a peer support team for officers who have experienced a crisis event, and also to the Crisis Negotiations Team in 2019.  John has displayed a great deal of skill and empathy in both of those positions and is considered a valuable asset to both teams.

Sr. Ofc. Snow’s compassion and empathy, along with his eternally positive attitude and superior job knowledge, have also led to John being considered a peer leader within the agency, someone who officers do not hesitate to turn to for advice or counsel.  As a peer leader, John has had a positive impact on the overall attitude and morale of those with whom he regularly works.  In addition to all of this, John is a K-9 handler with the agency.  He and his K-9 partner, Lennox, have been one of the most prolific K-9 teams in the agency.

John understands the importance of community involvement for a law enforcement agency.  He frequently participates in the department’s community engagement events.  In 2019, John participated in National Night Out, Shop with a Cop, and other events.

It is for all of these reasons, and so many more, that the members of the Leesburg Police Department chose Sr. K-9 Officer John Snow as their 2019 Officer of the Year.
