Apprentice - $14.86 - $20.55 per hour
This is an entry-level class in the Wastewater Operators Division. This class works under supervision on a training basis in the performance of a wide variety of routine unskilled to semi-skilled wastewater maintenance tasks that do not require previous wastewater experience. General work is observed and reviewed during performance and upon completion, and changes in procedures or exceptions to rules, are explained in detail as they arise. The class is responsible for monitoring wastewater treatment processes, adjusting chemical or physical processes, maintaining logs and records, and general system maintenance.  The class works according to set procedures under direct supervision.  Employees at this level are not expected to perform with the same independence of direction and judgment on matters related to establish procedures and guidelines as are positions allocated to the C level. Since this class is typically used as a training class, employees may have only limited or non-directly related work experience. Employees work under immediate supervision while learning job tasks. Weekend, holiday and after-hours work may be required, as well as after-hours response and emergencies. Requires a high school diploma or GED. Must obtain FDEP “C” license in Wastewater Plant Operations within 24 months of hire. Requires a valid State of Florida driver license and satisfactory driving record as a condition of initial and continued employment.  Employee must live within a 20-mile radius of the city limits of Leesburg due to on-call rotation requirement. 
 
Each level below requires a high school or GED. Must live within a 20-mile radius of the city limits of Leesburg due to on-call rotation requirement.  May mentor and assist in training of less experienced operations staff.  Maintain compliance using experience and best management practices.  Minimum requirements are as follows:
 
Operator “C” – $16.67 - $23.08 per hour
This class is responsible for monitoring wastewater treatment processes, adjusting chemical or physical processes, maintaining logs and records, and general plant and systems maintenance.  The class works according to some procedures; decides how and when to do things under general supervision.  Maintain compliance using experience and best management practices. Requires 2,080 hours of experience in Wastewater Treatment.  Must possess a valid FDEP “C” license in Wastewater Plant Operations at time of hire.  Must have and maintain a valid State of Florida driver’s license and satisfactory driving record as a condition of initial and continued employment
 
Operator “B” – $18.03 - $24.94 per hour
This class is responsible for monitoring wastewater treatment processes, adjusting chemical or physical processes, maintaining logs and records, and general plant and systems maintenance.  The class works according to some procedures; decides how and when to do things under general supervision.  Mentor and assist in training of lesser experienced Operations staff.  Maintain compliance using experience and best management practices. Requires 6,240 hours of experience in Wastewater Treatment.  Must possess a valid FDEP “B” license in Wastewater Treatment at time of hire.  Must have and maintain a valid State of Florida driver’s license and satisfactory driving record as a condition of initial and continued employment.
  
Operator “A” – $20.24 - $28.02 per hour
This class is responsible for monitoring wastewater treatment processes, adjusting chemical or physical processes, maintaining logs and records, and general plant and systems maintenance.  The class works according to some procedures; decides how and when to do things under general supervision.  Maintain compliance using experience and best management practices. Requires 10,400 hours of experience in Wastewater Treatment.  Must possess a valid FDEP “A” license in Wastewater Treatment at time of hire.  Must have and maintain a valid State of Florida driver’s license and satisfactory driving record as a condition of initial and continued employment.
