The Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Division is an internal service division of the Leesburg City Government, providing support to all of the departments and utilities for mapping, technical drawings and a variety of other products and services for the community.

The division consists of a GIS Manager, five (5) GIS Specialists and an Administrative Assistant.

Interactive GIS Maps

The GIS division now offers online access to interactive maps of its geographical information including parcel, zoning and land use, and topology data:

All of the operations of the City require decisions that will have long-term implications for individuals, neighborhoods and the entire City. The City Commission and other decision makers need high quality, accurate data to study the options and proceed with the best decision. GIS technologies provide the tools to staff and elected officials that enable them to improve the quality of life for present and future generations of Leesburg’s citizens.

Zoning and Future Land Use Maps

The GIS Team is responsible for the maintenance of data for the five (5) City operated utilities, assignment of street names and addresses within the City limits, maintenance of all new residential and commercial sub-divisions, distribution of utility construction plans for the City owned & operated utilities, and a variety of special projects, including production of maps related to land use, zoning, emergency management, sidewalk and road maintenance, trails and other project related maps and graphic products requested by the City Commission, City Administration, and the appointed boards and commissions of the City Commission.

GIS Layers

The use of GIS in Leesburg has grown over the years from a simple system of individual line drawings of various utilities on paper to an integrated system of databases related to each of the utilities and other data that can produce maps and other graphic representations of almost any information available. As a partner with Lake County GIS, the City of Leesburg GIS maintains the parcel base maps of property and owners that lie within the City Limits as well as the currently approved residential and commercial developments.

GIS, in addition to supporting the City’s utilities, supports the Police Department to track crime statistics, plots trends of crimes against our citizens that help reduce occurrences of these crimes, and assigns limited law enforcement resources. GIS also supports the Fire Department by providing maps and databases of all of the fire hydrants within our response areas to assist them with the routine maintenance and testing of these devices.

The GIS Division is now in the process of consolidating all of the available information about land use, zoning, property owners and a wide variety of information that our citizens can find useful for their day-to-day work, to plan for the future, and to help keep themselves and their families safe. We are working with the City’s Information Technology Department to make this information available to you through this site. As this project progresses we will be offering increasingly more powerful services to you. Please keep checking back to find these new links to services as we develop them.
