Special Weapons and Tactics

The Leesburg Police Department's Special Weapons and Tactics Team (S.W.A.T.) consists of numerous department members. All of these officers have gone through special training to deal with high risk incidents. The team is considered a "life saving" tool in dealing with numerous types of dangerous or high risk calls. The team may be called upon to assist the Criminal Investigations Division in the service of search warrants.

The S.W.A.T. team will respond to incidents such as hostage situations, barricaded suspects, high risk suicides, or any any other incident that the patrol officer may not be equipped to safely handle.

The S.W.A.T. team has at their disposal a wide array of tools such as chemical weapons, less than lethal weapons, and specialized tactics. These special tools and tactics allow the team to resolve dangerous situations without the loss of life.

SWAT Round-Up Competition:
The annual International S.W.A.T. Round-Up consists of seminars and training courses, but the highlight is the team competition. Teams from around the globe participate in timed events that challenge the tactics, endurance, and knowledge of the teams. Our officers put forth excellent effort every year and we're proud of their performance:
