Subject:                      Resolution authorizing Appointment to the Lake Sumter Metropolitan Planning Organization’s Citizens Advisory Committee

Staff Recommendation:

Staff recommends appointing George W. “Bill” Farner, Jr. to the Lake Sumter Metropolitan Planning Organization’s Citizens Advisory Committee.

Analysis:

The Commission appointed Howard Wiener to the Citizens’ Advisory Committee at its inception.   His current term expires at the end of December, 2008.  Mr. Wiener advised he is willing to serve again, but pointed out that some other cities have selected representatives who are not just "citizens," but are also industry professionals (engineers, architects, planners, etc.).  Mr. Wiener suggested Leesburg may be better served if the City’s representative is someone from the industry.

At the November 24, 2008, City Commission meeting City Manager Evans requested input from the Commission.   Commissioner Polk suggested Bill Farner, Hall-Farner and Associates, Inc.   Attached is Mr. Farner’s application for the Citizens Advisory Committee.

Options:

1. Approve George W. “Bill” Farner, Jr. as the City of Leesburg’s representative to the Citizens Advisory Committee

2.  Such alternative action as the Commission may deem appropriate

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LEESBURG, FLORIDA APPOINTING GEORGE W. "BILL" FARNER, JR. TO THE LAKE SUMTER METROPOLITAN PLANNING ORGANIZATION'S CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMITTEE; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LEESBURG, FLORIDA:

            THAT the City Commission hereby appoints George W. “Bill”  Farner, Jr.  to the LSMPO’s Citizens Advisory Committee, with term ending December 31, 2011.

 THAT this resolution shall become effective immediately.

PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Commission of the City of Leesburg, Florida, at a regular meeting held the 8th day of December 2008.
